This TechRepublic Premium download includes a checklist for PC and Mac migrations to minimize frustrations and improve productivity.
Regardless of the process, there are several elements to track when replacing an existing computer with a new system. Whether your organization begins by imaging drives or manually configures new systems, many questions must be addressed, including:
Does the user need a desktop or laptop?
Should the user receive a PC or Mac?
Which model did the user use previously?
Does a ready-made image exist for the user’s department, or will the migration proceed manually?
If using a ready-made image, does the user require additional or customized settings, applications or services not included within the image?
Who’s responsible for migrating any locally stored data on the old machine to the new system?
Do cloud accounts—including file storage services—need to be configured for the user?
Who’s recording BitLocker and FileVault recovery keys?
